How to Freeze Strawberries

I freeze a lot of strawberries when they’re in season. The simplest way to freeze berries is to wash and hull the berries, dry them, and place them in a single layer on a sheet pan in your freezer. You can cut them in half prior to freezing, but for ease of removal from sheet pan do not put the cut side down. When they are frozen solid, transfer to a freezer bag for smoothies, baking, or snacking throughout the year.

Another way to freeze berries is to puree them first. Just wash and hull your berries and puree them in a blender. Pour into freezer safe containers for use throughout the year. I make a lot of fruit leather with strawberry puree, but I don’t have enough time during the season to make it all. Freezing the puree allows me to spread the workload out. My oldest son loves strawbery puree, so often I’ll just put the puree in the fridge for a day or two before freezing and he’ll drink it straight or make a smoothie.

Be sure to come back to Heeks Farm to pick berries again so you’ll have enough to freeze and enjoy throughout the year.

Steps:

Step 1: Wash, hull, and dry your strawberries completely.

Step 2: Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet (so they don’t stick together).

Step 3: Freeze until solid, then transfer to a freezer bag.
